​Online journalist Marjan Stamenkovski brutally beaten with metal bars in Skopje

On 20 July 2015, Marjan Stamenkovski , editor of “Dokaz” website, was brutally assaulted outside a coffee bar in Skopje by a group of five masked men who beat him up using metal bars. He sustained serious injuries on the head and a broken nose in the attack which also left him with a broken arm. The journalist, who needed treatment at a local hospital, reported the attack to the local police station. “Dokaz” website is an outspoken critic of the ruling party, VMRO-DPMNE in its reporting. In an interview on NOTA TV, the victim said his attackers had sent him “greetings from his former party”. The International Federation of Journalists and its European organisation the European Federation of Journalists (EFJ) have referred the incident to the Council of Europe's Platform for the promotion of journalism and safety of journalists.
